Topic - Adding Integers with Counter and Number Lines

OPTIONAL: Get Chrome Extension WEBPAINT


1. Whole class practice problems.



2. Breakout Room Practice
When speaking, emphasize vocabulary shown in RED.
  1. Do your assigned problem. Wait for others to finish. Signal?
  2. Person with longest hair says: What did you get for your answer? How many ZERO PAIRS? How many LEFTOVERS?
Each partner responds in full sentences:
  • "For Zero Pairs, I got _______."
  • "For Left Overs, I got _______."

MATERIALS: Notebook, markers or pencils
Try these problems by drawing counters.

A. Write problem in notebook
B. Draw counters in notebook
C. Cross off any Zero Pairs
D. Write number of ZP and LO


4. Breakout Room
When speaking, emphasize vocabulary shown in RED.

  2. Person with the most siblings says: What did you get for your START NUMBER? WHAT IS YOUR MOVE NUMBER? What is your END NUMBER?
Each partner responds in full sentences:
  • "My START NUMBER is _______."
  • "My MOVE NUMBER is_______."
  • "My END NUMBER is ________."


5. Independent Work Time: KHAN Number equations & number lines
MATERIALS: Notebook, markers or pencils
Try these problems by drawing counters.

A. Write problem in notebook
B. Draw a number line
C. Label your START NUMBER
D. DRAW AN ARROW and Label your MOVE NUMBER
E. LABEL YOUR END NUMBER

Right Now during INDEPENDENT WORK TIME, you have the option to work in a BREAKOUT ROOM or stay in the MAIN ROOM.  If you go to a BREAKOUT ROOM, you can come back to the main room anytime to ask questions.
